| 1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. 2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. 3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. 4 Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. 5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. 6 When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. 7 Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. 8 My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me. |

O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. |
| King David, who often saw the power and glory of God, was longing for God in desert. Not only was the desert around him a dry and thirsty land without water, David's heart was equally dry and thirsty because of not seeing God. At that time, David knew how to seek God earnestly, and praise God with his lips - from thirsting for God and longing for God early in the desert, till remembering Him and meditating on Him in the night watches on bed. While David did so, the lovingkindness of God gradually filled him, his soul changed from being dry and thirsty to being satisfied as with marrow and fatness, like being moved from the scorching sun to under the shadow of God's wings, full of joy and cheer. If you and I have, for some time, not been reading the Bible, praying and waiting upon the Lord, or not been attending worship, having a normal Christian body life, then our spiritual life would also become dry and thirsty. If we have Bible to read, have a church with sound doctrine to go to, then we should admire the pure spiritual milk, pray often, draw close to God, and not give up meeting together, also imitate David to seek God earnestly and to praise God with our lips. Praise God, for He is full of power and full of glory; praise God, for His lovingkindness is better than life; praise God, for He has been our help, protecting us with the shadow of His wings; praise God, for He upholds us with His right hand - our souls would follow closely behind Him! |
