1 Peter 1:3-9

8 你 們 雖 然 沒 有 見 過 祂 , 卻 是 愛 祂 ; 如 今 雖 不 得 看 見 , 卻 因 信 祂 就 有 說 不 出 來 、 滿 有 榮 光 的 大 喜 樂 ;

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,

7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

Peter told us, since we were begotten through Christ, we hope for an incorruptible inheritance, and for the salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Even with lots of trials, even though we do not see Him, we still have glorious joy, for our faith may be found genuine! Praise God, He is El Shaddai, who resurrected from death with almighty power, and overcame the power of death; praise God, He is Emmanuel, who have begotten us in the Holy Spirit, and also in-dwell us; praise God, He is Ebenezer, who always keep us, reserve an inheritance in heaven for us, make ready the salvation to be revealed in the last time, and prove our faith as genuine; praise God, He accomplished all in Christ, so that Christ is all and in all! Dear brothers, sisters and friends, we have finally come to the last day of the month of praise. Let us farewell 2011 and welcome 2012 in praise. May we encourage each other in the new year that He may have the first place!

Ephesians 1:3-14

4 就 如   神 從 創 立 世 界 以 前 , 在 基 督 裡 揀 選 了 我 們 , 使 我 們 在 祂 面 前 成 為 聖 潔 , 無 有 瑕 疵 ;

8 這 恩 典 是   神 用 諸 般 智 慧 聰 明 , 充 充 足 足 賞 給 我 們 的 ;

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,

5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,

9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,

10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth — in Him.

11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.

This is Paul's eulogy in one breath, praising God's selection, Christ's salvation and the Holy Spirit's seal of promise. Selection in the past is meant for us to become holy and blameless before Him; the salvation today makes us adopted as sons to Himself; in the future, the seal of promise is the guarantee of our inheritance when we are gathered together in one in Christ. Praise God, He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ; praise God, He chose us in Christ to be adopted as sons to Himself; praise God, He has freely given us the riches of His grace in Christ, i.e. in Him we have redemption through His blood and the forgiveness of sins; praise God, He made us the first to hope in Christ, i.e. in Him we have obtained an inheritance; praise God, His glory is worthy of praise, the glory of His grace is worthy of praise!

Romans 11:33-36

33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

34 “For who has known the mind of the LORD?
      Or who has become His counselor?”

35 “Or who has first given to Him
      And it shall be repaid to him?”

36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

For who has known the mind of the LORD?
For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?

阿門!This scripture is an apex of Romans. After Paul discussed how God made His salvation available from the Israelites to the Gentiles, and finally all Israel will be saved, he cannot help but to exclaim that the wisdom and knowledge of God is so rich and unsearchable, therefore he offered heartfelt praise to God. Praise God, His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts than our thoughts, nobody is qualified to offer Him any counseling; praise God, He is an all-sufficient God, He owes nobody, and all that we have originates from His freely given grace; praise God, He is alpha, without Him nothing was made that has been made; praise God, He is omega, when the times will have reached their fulfillment, He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth - in Him; praise God, through Him are all things, for He upholds all things by the word of His power; praise God, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Zephaniah 3:14-17

14 Sing, O daughter of Zion!
      Shout, O Israel!
      Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
      O daughter of Jerusalem!

15 The LORD has taken away your judgments,
      He has cast out your enemy.
      The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst;
      You shall see disaster no more.

16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:
      “Do not fear;
      Zion, let not your hands be weak.

17 The LORD your God in your midst,
      The Mighty One, will save;
      He will rejoice over you with gladness,
      He will quiet you with His love,
      He will rejoice over you with singing.”

The prophet Zephaniah saw that after God purified the Israelites, remnants would return to Jerusalem, who would no longer do wrong nor speak lies but would rather call on and trust in the name of the LORD with pure language, so he exhorted the people to be joyful. The most amazing thing is that God actually rejoices over the people He saved with singing! You and I were saved by God, but our mood is still often influenced by daily nitty-gritties, not truly rejoicing in God. Paul said, "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!" Praise God, for He has taken away our judgments and has cast out our enemy; praise God, for He is always with us, that we shall fear no more; praise God, for He is mighty to save; praise God, for He will quiet us with His love, and will rejoice over us with singing!

Habakkuk 3:17-19

和合本NKJV
17 雖 然 無 花 果 樹 不 發 旺 , 葡 萄 樹 不 結 果 , 橄 欖 樹 也 不 效 力 , 田 地 不 出 糧 食 , 圈 中 絕 了 羊 , 棚 內 也 沒 有 牛 ;

17 Though the fig tree may not blossom,
      Nor fruit be on the vines;
      Though the labor of the olive may fail,
      And the fields yield no food;
      Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
      And there be no herd in the stalls —

18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
      I will joy in the God of my salvation.

19 The LORD God is my strength;
      He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
      And He will make me walk on my high hills.
      To the Chief Musician. With my stringed instruments.

The LORD God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills.

The prophet Habakkuk received an oracle from God that God would first raise up the Chaldeans, who were more ruthless and impetuous than the Israelites, to annex Judah, as judgment to the violence and wrongs of Judah, before the Chaldeans were judged for their pride and not being upright in soul. Habakkuk knew clearly that the righteous shall live by his faith, so he prayed and praised God in psalm, of which this scripture is the last 3 verses. Habakkuk knew that the land would first become desolate before the salvation of God would arrive, and even though there would be nothing to eat, he was still full of faith, still rejoiced in God, and truly believed that God would keep the righteous from all kinds of evils. You and I are partners walking in the heavenly path, and before we see the face of our Lord, we will encounter tribulation and persecution -- the world has hated us because we are not of the world, just as Jesus is not of the world -- do we have the same faith as Habakkuk, no matter who, what, when or where, nothing could separate us from the love of God? When we face difficulties or frustration, when it is dire circumstance ahead, can we be like Habakkuk to rejoice in God and to live by faith? Praise God, for He is righteous, the wicked cannot stand for long; praise God, for He is our joy, and He is our strength; praise God, He justified us by faith, and enabled us to live by faith; praise God, He is God who saves us -- our Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on earth, and in my flesh I shall see God with my eyes!

Jonah 2:1-9

8 那 信 奉 虛 無 之 神 的 人 , 離 棄 憐 愛 他 們 的 主 ;

1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish’s belly.

2 And he said:
      “I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction,
      And He answered me.
      “Out of the belly of Sheol I cried,
      And You heard my voice.

3 For You cast me into the deep,
      Into the heart of the seas,
      And the floods surrounded me;
      All Your billows and Your waves passed over me.

4 Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight;
      Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’

5 The waters surrounded me, even to my soul;
      The deep closed around me;
      Weeds were wrapped around my head.

6 I went down to the moorings of the mountains;
      The earth with its bars closed behind me forever;
      Yet You have brought up my life from the pit,
      O LORD, my God.

7 “When my soul fainted within me,
      I remembered the LORD;
      And my prayer went up to You,
      Into Your holy temple.

8 “Those who regard worthless idols
      Forsake their own Mercy.

9 But I will sacrifice to You
      With the voice of thanksgiving;
      I will pay what I have vowed.
      Salvation is of the LORD.”

Although Jonah did not obey God, when God wanted him to go east he went west, but after all he is a prophet who knows God. In the fish's belly, he was not only free of bitterness, but also brought forth a song of praise. He knows that he was destined to death when he was thrown into the sea, but God answered his cry and prayer, and prepared a great fish to swallow him so that he was kept alive, hence this great fish is never a judgment but rather, a salvation. Before you and I knew God, we have turned to our own ways, but God laid on Jesus the iniquities of us all, hence saved us. Sometimes we are being cast out and our souls faint, remember to look upon God, and enter His temple with prayer; sometimes we find ourselves surrounded by flood and passed over by billows and waves, remember to cry out and pray to God; maybe after we are saved, we still find ourselves in fish's belly, not yet brought to light, and our circumstances to be worse than before, we should remember to offer thanksgiving to God and praise His salvation. Praise God, He leads us in the path of righteousness; praise God, He listens to our prayers; praise God, He saves our lives; praise God, just as Jonah would be vomited onto dry land to receive complete freedom, we who have the firstfruits of the Spirit are also waiting for the redemption of our bodies, and we deeply trust that Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith, will fulfill this thing in that day!

Isaiah 61:1-7,10-11

和合本NKJV
1 主 耶 和 華 的 靈 在 我 身 上 ; 因 為 耶 和 華 用 膏 膏 我 , 叫 我 傳 好 信 息 給 謙 卑 的 人 ( 或 譯 : 傳 福 音 給 貧 窮 的 人 ) , 差 遣 我 醫 好 傷 心 的 人 , 報 告 被 擄 的 得 釋 放 , 被 囚 的 出 監 牢 ;

1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me,
      Because the LORD has anointed Me
      To preach good tidings to the poor;
      He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
      To proclaim liberty to the captives,
      And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,
      And the day of vengeance of our God;
      To comfort all who mourn,

3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
      To give them beauty for ashes,
      The oil of joy for mourning,
      The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
      That they may be called trees of righteousness,
      The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”

4 And they shall rebuild the old ruins,
      They shall raise up the former desolations,
      And they shall repair the ruined cities,
      The desolations of many generations.

5 Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks,
      And the sons of the foreigner
      Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.

6 But you shall be named the priests of the LORD,
      They shall call you the servants of our God.
      You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles,
      And in their glory you shall boast.

7 Instead of your shame you shall have double honor,
      And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion.
      Therefore in their land they shall possess double;
      Everlasting joy shall be theirs.

10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD,
      My soul shall be joyful in my God;
      For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
      He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
      As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,
      And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

11 For as the earth brings forth its bud,
      As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth,
      So the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

For as the earth brings forth its bud, as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

This scripture is a prophesy concerning the Messiah. Lord Jesus quoted this scripture Himself to illustrate that He is the Messiah. The coming of the Messiah is good news, because all the benefits in the Mosaic Law that the Israelites did not keep will be fulfilled. Moses instructed the Israelites that every fiftieth year shall be the Year of Jubilee, when liberty is proclaimed throughout the land to all its inhabitants, and each one is to return to his family property. Also, this year is consecrated like the other sabbath years, in which no sowing, reaping nor grape-gathering is allowed, only eating what is taken directly from the field. Now the Messiah is proclaiming the acceptable year of the LORD, which includes liberty to the captives, opening of prison to those who are bound, and returning of God's people to rebuild the old ruins of the possession that God gave them. In addition, they do not have to work their fields nor vineyards, because foreigners would do it for them! Moses instructed the Israelites to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation, which they never fulfilled; but now for the sake of the Messiah, people will call them priests of the LORD, servants of God, trees of righteousness planted by God! How can one not rejoice in and praise such grace? Praise God, for He proclaimed good news and comforted us; praise God, for He saved us, and covered us with the robes of righteousness; praise God, for He is our joy; praise God, for He is faithful till forevermore!
